These compounds can be categorized into four distinct flavor profiles: spicy, sour, sweet, and earthy. Each category offers a unique sensory experience and is associated with specific terpenes, some common and others quite rare, all with potential medicinal qualities.

Spicy Terpenes:

Among the spicy terpenes, caryophyllene is the most prevalent in cannabis. It imparts a warm, peppery, and sometimes clove-like aroma to strains. Caryophyllene has garnered attention for its potential anti-inflammatory properties and as a potential treatment for conditions like chronic pain. It's also unique among terpenes as it interacts with the endocannabinoid system, much like cannabinoids do.

Rare Spicy Terpenes:

Sabinene and humulene are examples of less common spicy terpenes. Sabinene contributes a spicy, woody note, while humulene adds earthy, woody, and even floral elements. While less frequently encountered, these terpenes may offer potential health benefits such as anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.
